Please carefully review and understand the irreversible impact that the approval of the Great Lakes Basin railroad (GLB) project will have on the thousands of people who utilize the natural resources at Camp Shaw-Waw-Nas-See in Manteno, IL. My three children have been camping at Camp Shaw each summer for the past five years. We have appreciated Camp Shaw as adults that moved to the hectic suburbs of Chicago and recognize that sometimes we just need to unplug and go back to nature. Since my entire family's first visit, our lives have been impacted and changed for the better. Camp Shaw provides my children and countless other children an escape to a place where there are no televisions, cell phones, video games and the noise and stimulus that is so often overpowering in their lives. Children are given the opportunity to play in the river, hike in the forest and sleep under the stars, all without the noise and light pollution they live with every day. If there is any doubt as to the value of this in the children and adults who attend Camp Shaw's lives, you must visit the camp for yourself. I truly believe that as adults it is our job to protect our children and what is integral to their development as good, productive, and mindful human beings. Providing places such as Camp Shaw is one of the ways we can do that. Please do not approve the railroad adjacent the Camp Shaw property.
