July 9th, 2016 I am writing as to an environmental/safety concern on GLBT - FD35952 in the NW 1/4 of section 13, Vienna Twp, Grundy County, IL. The proposed rail would pass directly behind our home and split our 157 acre farm into 2 triangles. On the south quarter of the farm there is over a 4% grade rolling down from the top of the ridge where the train tracks are proposed to split the pasture, 2 small fields, drainage ditch, and cross the creek in the timber and back up 30 plus feet on the south creek wall. This topography is unsuitable at over a 4% grade drop and rise in a 1/4 mile for a 70 mile an hour train! Graded tracks would not be applicable as that little drainage ditch though it may seem small now can turn into a roaring white water rafting flow in a flash flood. It took out our cattle crossing culvert and all gravel etc around it and moved it to the top of the ridge in a flash flood. What would it do to a rail? Not to mention you have the creek also doing the same! There is a reason the tracks some 70 years ago DID NOT pick this spot!!!!! As purposed with no large spanned bridge they would be building a DAM!!! Would it Breach and take out the tracks? Severe water drainage/flooding problems would occur! The GLB did not do their homework and all they did was draw a line. I am asking the Surface Transportation Board to deny the GLB project. Laurie Fleishman 815-287-2280.
