Hello Mr. Navecky, I am writing to convey my serious concern and opposition to the proposed construction of the Great Lakes Basin (GLB) rail line. I believe that the magnitude of environmental risks eclipse the supposed benefits shared by Mr. Patton. A large portion of the proposed construction of the rail line will run within Southeastern Wisconsin’s Rock Prairie. This specific area is well known by Famers, Geologists and Conservationists alike as an area rich in soil nutrients for the bountiful production of crops such as corn, wheat, and soy. Chemical spills by derailment could easily contaminate the soil and render much of the prairie agriculturally idle. Conversely, I believe that current vacated rail lines within the proposed areas in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin could be a possible viable alternative to the GLB rail line. Using vacated rail lines would minimize environmental risk to the soil-rich prairie by re-routing existing rail lines away from the Rock Prairie. Utilizing unused rail infrastructure would also promote environmental sustainability initiatives by limiting the disruption of agriculture and wildlife caused by new construction and rail operations on the Rock Prairie. Thank you for your time and consideration on this important environmental review. Sincerely, Dave Tishkowski
