Dear Surface Transportation Board, Thank you for accepting my concern. My concern is a valid one considering the fact that my home and livelihood stands in the footprint of a 15,000 acre proposed railport in Sumner Township. Please provide a response to this message. 1. Why does GLBT require such a footprint, equal to that of 5 of the largest railyard/railports in this country? See the attached link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bailey_Yard The Bailey yard owned by Union Pacific is the largest at under 2,900 acres. 2. GLBT should have to provide a plan and detailed proposal for the use of this land for anything of the like to be granted. Farmland should be forever, and not sold to the highest bidder. This is where the American people get their meals. 3. An environmental study should be procured for the negative effects on this 15,000 acre area alone. Including but not limited to the following: impacts to underground drainage systems, impacts to underground pipelines, impacts to native wildlife, impacts to ground water, impacts to Kankakee River due to run off/spills/contamination, impacts to local safety, impacts to quality of life, impacts to existing infrastructure upon notification of proposed usage. 4. Please explain to me the law in which a private entity deemed a transportation company" can utilize federal eminent domain laws that exist for and were created for Class 1 railroads. GLBT is not a Class 1 railroad, and also lacks the support of the Class 1 railroads. Your response is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
