I am writing in regards to the Great Lakes Basin Rail project. Apparently the managers of this project just drew lines on the map in disregard of terrain issues, which shows their lack of knowledge and empathy for the environment. An example of this is from mile 183 to mile 178. After connecting to the Canadian Pacific off Rte 72, the rail line crosses several waterways to mile 182, then comes down a hill and curves to run along a drainage ditch from mile 181 to mile 178. There is a reason there are no houses built around that section of Base Line road, because the water table is only 18 to 24 inches deep, and the county will not permit housing. Without the drainage ditches, which will be eliminated at mile 179 where the rail expands to 6 tracks, which is also where about 4 drainage ditches combine to go into Kilbuck creek. The drainage for thousands of acres, from Il highway 39 to about 5 miles east, will be eliminated, and will cause profound problems, not just for the farms but also the railway itself.
