I would like to state my total opposition to the GL Basin Transportation proposal. The environmental impact would be devastating, with thousands of homes, business, schools and communities being destroyed. That is not even to mention the dire safety hazards involved. In quoting from the Morris Herald's May 3, 2016 edition, a Q&A session was held with GLB co-founder Frank Patton present. It was reported that he only answered 50% of the question put to him. I also find two things he said very disturbing. One is his quote that the RRIF currently has a balance of $30 billion and the federal government is aggressive to use it". My take-away from this is that the government just wants to spend money...without concern for the welfare of the people in this railway's path. Also, when asked how much of the $8 billion will come from foreign investors, Patton said he could not say. I don't find this very transparent. Although he did add "at the moment" he had no plans for foreign investors, but we know that could change in an instant. I implore the STB to remove this proposal in it's entirety. The American people should not live in this fear of having our land taken from us and our earning ability taken from us and our way of life forever changed."
