I am opposed to the construction of the Great Lakes Basin Railroad. This project would destroy valuable farmland, restrict access to farm fields, and encourage sprawl. It would disrupt the agricultural contribution to Boone County's economy. Rather than building over prime farmland whose best use is for the production of food, I believe it would be better to upgrade and expand existing rail lines. This would facilitate the movement of goods by train and yet allow the continued use of farmland for food production.
