I am against this railroad. I live in a quiet and safe area of northwest Indiana by choice. I live outside of town limits of Lowell, and not in a town or city, as it is quiet and relaxing. If I wanted to live by a railroad, that is where I would have built my house. A rail line across the street from my house will disrupt the quiet and cause in my opinion quite a bit of noise pollution. I cannot imagine the amount of noise there would be, this will disrupt sleep for my entire family. I am also concerned how this railroad can be placed so near and in the Greater Kankakee Basin area. Safety is also an issue as a mother of 3 children who ride the bus back and forth to school, I wonder how crossing the tracks several times a day will increase the chance of a potential accident. I cannot imagine trains going along constantly at a high rate of speed and this not impacting the safety of the community. I am also concerned about the ability for ambulance and first responders, if they were needed at my home or at my neighbors home, to be able to arrive within a reasonable amount of time. As a nurse, I am well aware of how minutes can affect the outcome of any situation in a medical emergency. I would hate for an ambulance, or police officer to be stuck waiting for a train to pass. Our family is against the railroad and are concerned about how this will effect our daily lives. No railroad. Use the existing tracks.
