The proposed GLBT rail line is presented as a high speed, high volume bypass. This dramatically increases the chances of accidents and derailments leading to hazardous material spills. The rail line route in Indiana parallels the northern edge of the Kankakee River flood plain. This soil is very permeable in this area with a high water mark being only 3 to 5 feet below the surface. Being this close to the river and flood plain means there are more tributaries in this area moving higher volumes of surface water to the river. This is too high of a risk area to put this rail line. The drinking water wells in this area are shallower and therefore more vulnerable to contamination. When accidents and derailments occur in these types of areas it is much harder, and often times impossible, to contain and mitigate hazardous material spills that are lighter than water, heavier than water or water soluble. The risks are too high in this area. For these reasons I am asking the STB to deny this project. Ed Linden Unincorporated Cedar Creek Township Lowell, Indiana
