We are writing these comments in regards to the proposal for the GLB Railroad project. This project will greatly impact the Salina Township and surrounding farming communities, in Kankakee County. Much of the exisiting drainage systems are from the late 1930-40s and aren't in the best condition to begin with. Many of them aren't mapped to know exactly where they are located. The heavy equipment needed for the construction will crush or damage any exisiting tiles, compromising any drainage that may be in use. This would be very costly to repair, or replace for farmers that would be impacted by this destruction. Another major concern is the contamination of surrounding underground aquaphors, used by the public for clean, safe, drinking water. Contamination will result from spillage of fuel and/or oil from the train itself, or from contents being transported in railcars, either from damaged cars, or by an accidental derailment. There would also be contamination from all the construction vehicles and machines needed to build this project. The possible ground and aquaphor contamination could also impact waterways, fisheries, and the wildlife that abounds in this area. Crops or wildlife habitat, used as feeding grounds for livestock or wildlife, could become harmful or injurious. Hunting ground could be left unuseable because of NOISE POLLUTION, SOIL CONTAMINATION, or just the fact that the railway would run through the existing areas. These concerns are all very worthy of your attention! Please take action to deny the GLB Railway project in altering this farming community and our peaceful and enjoyable lifestyle. This is where we've CHOSEN to live and to raise our families, and we do NOT need, or want ANY of the so-called improvements that have been touted with this proposed project. Thank you for your time and concideration of our comments. Terry & Linda Meyer
