The Great Lakes Basin Transportation (GLBT) purposed railroad should not be approved. The amount of land that would need to be take by way of eminent domain is not only ridiculous, but it boarders on the criminal. For years the residents of southern Will county and Northern Kankakee have been fighting to prevent a toll road interstate from being constructed and built, but just as it seemed like that idea was dying, another unbelievable public interest" project has emerged. Eminent domain should not be used to remove some of the richest, best producing farmland in the country to simply benefit private rail carriers, especially at the cost of hurting and hindering the local farming communities that it would impact. The sentiments are this: do not benefit those persons who have chosen to live in Chicagoland by hurting those that live outside of it. I regularly travel between Homer Glen (where I reside) and Kankakee, Bonfield, and Manteno. If a new rail line is needed then let the rail carriers build it in the city and suburbs where they operate, not in the beautiful countryside that does not need or want a "toll railroad." Sincerely, William "Bill" Merchantz"
