The proposed railroad toll way with GLB is in no way necessary or beneficial to the communities that it would go through. The environmental concerns alone should stop this proposal dead, not to mention the concerns for first responders trying to victims. I personally have never seen anything clean with a railroad or switch yard or a thriving community that wasn't riddled with crime. The fact that only one company wants this and that they wish to use eminent domain for private use through public land that the taxpayers help maintain is not the definition of it. Eminent Domain: the right of a government or its agent to expropriate private property for PUBLIC use, with payment of compensation. I have seen over the years railroad tracks taken out. Why? If the problem is trains waiting, to me, the problem is in scheduling that the train companies need to figure out. This is an all around terrible idea that will impact thousands of lives and ruin communities! Manteno is a beautiful town that people move to for a better way of living to raise there families, this proposal will ruin it and communities around it.I have said for years that Manteno needed a way for first responders to get across the tracks for emergencies with no brides, and now they want to put in more tracks with a switch yard! I am all for progress but this is not the answer!
