This was in the Rockford Paper a few weeks ago, Boone County voted to oppose the Railroad. The farmer pays taxes for the land he owns and the crops he raises. There is no guarantee that the same amount of tax money would come from this proposed railroad. Where would this leave the cities and counties in its path? They would either cut services or raise taxes on everyone to cover the added expense for emergency responders and equipment, flood control measures, road crossings and repairs, noise abatement, waterway pollution from the rail construction, and if a toxic spill occurred and polluted the aquifer, the need to dig deeper wells for city water as well as private wells for livestock, irrigation and human consumption. By losing farmland, you loose a guaranteed tax base. By running tankers filled with toxic chemicals across the rich loamy soil, you risk pollution to our pure aquifer, which in several years Chicago will want to share. There is no substitute for clean water or abundant food. Look to the future. Making money isn't always what is most valuable in life! Please consider opposing the GLB project. They are going to take the land by eminent domain for private gain. Any money to be made is going to the private investors not back into the communities we live in. Thank you for your consideration, Donna Hall
