As a long time resident of the area impacted by the GLB railroad project I need to go on record as being categorically and unequivocally opposed to this project. The increase in noise and the disruption of normal traffic flows due to numerous grade crossings in the area can only have a detrimental effect of the rural lifestyle this area enjoys. I regularly use the bike trail through the Kankakee River State Park. This project will adversely effect the enjoyment of the bike trail. I strongly urge that a full and complete environmental study be completed. We depend on the Salina Township volunteer fire department for fire protection and 911 response. The ability of first responders to get to the fire station and then to the emergency scene will be hampered due to the increase of grade crossings of the railroad, thus putting lives and property at risk. This project will adversely affect thousands of local residents while it may benefit a small group of outside investors. This would be a total misuse of eminent domain confiscation of private property. This project needs to be stopped immediately or at least be tied up in legal and bureaucratic red tape until these private investors no longer see a fast buck at the expense of my neighbors and me.
