As Village President I have a number of concerns about the GLBT project that passes to the west of our village. The area west of Paw Paw and east of I-39 has been designated as a growth area by our comprehensive plan created in 2006. Having a rail line dissecting this area would be a logistical and costly prospect. Also our sewage treatment plant is located within a .25 mile of this project. The impact on our S.T.P. due to the vibration of 50-60 trains per day is unknown to us, but some problems are possible. Lastly, is there any mechanism for compensating property owners for loss of value once a rail line becomes their neighbor? Many homes west of Paw Paw are within a few hundred feet of the proposed rail line. There seems to be many more questions than answers about this project. It feels like the burden to find solutions to prospective problems is being placed on the public rather than GLBT. It seem premature to move ahead with such a project until the public is satisfied with GLBT's answers.
