I am sending this letter in concern to the railroad planning. we live 250ft from the tracks and my parents live next door to us and they are 175ft from the tracks. I take care of my parents and their bedroom is on the side of the tracks and the crossing. Both my parents have health issues, my father has heart issues and has had a triple bypass my mother has multiple myeloma (a cancer of the blood and bones)... my concern for them is the toxins and the train whistle that will be blowing before the train crosses the road. the railroad crossing on route 2 will be right next to our driveway and we will be waiting every 10 minutes for a train to cross. the crossing will be difficult for the emergency vehicles that will be traveling on route 2...from what I understand is that none of the buses, ambulances, and fire trucks are equipped for this type of crossing? How will that work with route 2 being a main road for many of these emergency vehicles. We have 4 kids, one of which just graduated from high school and plans to commute to Valparaiso University everyday. she will have to wait for at least 2 crossings for her trip to college everyday. to time out 110 trains daily will be very difficult and unsafe. my other 3 kids attend Hebron schools and will also have to be making stops at railroad crossings. My children raise animals for 4H. all the money they have put into the animals will be for nothing because of the toxins and noise that will come from these trains. the same toxins and fumes and noises from these trains will affect all of us here at home and our livestock. we have well points and the ground soaking up all of the waste we cant drink, bathe in, wash our clothes and dishes.. let alone all I have talked of but we are farmers...not just all the land they will be taking but all the crops that will be damaged from the toxins. how does my family make a living if our potential crops and livestock will be destroyed from these trains.
