These comments concern the proposed Chicago by-pass rail line slated to pass along the Buckley Homestead County Park in Lowell. While northern Lake County Indiana offers various natural resources for citizens to enjoy such as the Dunes Parks and Lakeshore, there are more limited options of quality located in Southern Lake County, and Buckley Homestead is one of the few. The park is unique in terms of history and conservation in the commutable area to our home. Our family regularly attends historic reenactments, educational events, and festivals on the property. We have learned about the heritage or our region and generations past in a hands on experiential way that is impossible to learn from books, lectures, or television programming. The natural beauty and tranquility of the grounds possess a truly special quality, that transports a person to another time. The educational value of the homestead in terms of history is truly invaluable. It would be so short-sighted to deprive future generations of this unique resource by disrupting the peaceful, rural, remote, and authentic feeling present in the park with the noise and intrusion of a modern freight rail line. Please consider these comments when determining the final route of the project. Thank you.
