With regard to the proposed Great Lakes Basin Railway, I am expressing my opposition to the project. I am a resident of Grant Park, Illinois, with a home about one mile south of the proposed Rail Port site. The removal from production of 15,000 acres of prime farm land would be detrimental to the health of, not only the local population, but the population in general. Although the exact description of the workings of a Rail Port are unclear to me, I envision an industrial environment with air and water pollutants. Any economic benefit derived by the siting are far outweighed by the harm to the environment. At what point do we stop paving paradise to put up a Rail Port?
