# 14 Docket # FD 35952 – Environmental Comments Last week another freight train carrying Bakken crude oil derailed in Oregon near the Columbia River and Gorge. Sixteen (16) cars left the rails, four (4) caught fire, some exploded sending black smoke into the sky. This caused highways to be closed nearby and also caused evacuations. Some of the evacuated included children and faculty at a nearby school. As of Tuesday June 7, 2016 rail cars at the scene were too hot to be removed. Bakken crude oil is the most dangerous and hazardous type of oil because it is so highly flammable. The people in the area where the GLBT plans to build a rail line deserve to know what Frank Patton plans to transport on his rail line. If it is Bakken crude oil the dangers to the communities and the environment are astronomical. According to the Mosier, OR fire chief shipping Bakken crude oil by rail is insane. I am attaching two articles from an area publication. Please do not take these disastrous derailments and the dangers of shipping Bakken crude oil and other hazardous materials lightly. These endanger human life as well as wildlife and the vital resources needed to sustain life. Please deny this proposed rail line. We feel that our time for comments being limited to only sixty (60) days is unfair. At least six (6) months should be allowed for comments. The longer we research rail hauling hazardous and explosive materials the more examples of serious consequences we find. Please say “NO” to this project. Thank you for your consideration.
