As a resident and Superintendent of Schools at Grant Park School District #6, I have several concerns regarding the Grant Lakes Basis Rail Project. From an environmental perspective, we are unaware of what types of materials will be transported and stored at the proposed rail yard. I was at a meeting with Mr. Patton, manager of this project, and the question was posed. Unfortunately, the answer was very evasive with little detail. Therefore, my concerns are with the potential spill of hazardous materials that would adversely affect the drinking water of thousands of residents. In addition, my school district has a right to know what types of materials would be transported for the simple preparation of emergency planning. I find it alarming that there has been no discussion with local school superintendents on the environmental concerns that this project clearly poses.
