Dear Mr. Navecky: I voice my opposition to the proposed GLBT railroad for the following reasons (among others): * There already exist unused or under-used rights-of-way through the region that could alleviate the congestion of freight rail traffic going through Chicago; * The CREATE partnership between U.S. DOT, the State of Illinois, City of Chicago, Metra, Amtrak, and the nation's freight railroads ($3.8 billion estimated cost in 2013 dollars) to increase the efficiency of freight and passenger rail service throughout the region already has - 20 completed projects, - 9 projects under construction, - 6 projects in final design, - 13 projects in environmental review, and - 22 projects awaiting funding which together are estimated to yield $28.3 billion in benefits over 30 years; and * The proposed route of the railroad will negatively affect the ability of emergency responders such as ambulances and fire departments to timely respond to residents living south of the proposed route, and negatively affect residents' drive time to hospitals in cases of emergency. In my case, roads to the two closest area hospitals (in Valparaiso and Crown Point) are crossed by the proposed GLBT route (on Indiana State Road 2). Please do not allow GLBT to proceed. Its negative effects are not wanted by the majority of residents and politicians in the areas that will be affected by this unneeded project. Kind regards, Michael C. Bryant
