Concerns Regarding the GLB Railroad: Closing of township roads impacting rural school bus routes, emergency responders, commute times, businesses. Increased possibility of spills and derailments with high speed rail. Spills that could contaminate the Kankakee River, drinking water for thousands of people. Impact on current farmland because of land locked fields. Damage to field tiles. Disrupting natural flow of surface water creating wetlands, stagnant water, also water contamination. Risk permanent damage to surrounding soil with transport of oil and chemicals. Disturbing 23 acres, of mostly farmland, per mile of railroad track. This farmland is gone forever. Compacting soil during construction and the loss of prime farmland. The proposal of 110 trains a day is one train every 13 minutes. This is noise, vibration, light pollution 24/7 for anyone trying to live here. The proposal and building of this railroad does not solve problems it creates many, many more for multitudes of people.
