I am concerned with the close proximity of the proposed GLB railroad to underground coal mining shafts in the section #30 of Essex Township section. Subsidence has occurred in this area and farmers have had issues with sink holes." The mine in Section 30 of Essex Township was called the “Oklamoma” mine, but documents also call it Gardner Wilmington Coal Company Gardner Wilmington No. 2 **1889-1893 327,036 production tons of coal Gardner Wilmington Coal Company Gardner Wilmington No. 1 1893-1895 78,171 productions of coal This mine very close to the 93 milepost of the proposed rail where it will cross from Kankakee County into Grundy County. There is another shaft mine called the Savage Mine located close to the proposed rail on the far western Grundy County border. These underground mining tunnels should be thoroughly investigated because of the unstable ground. Mining maps can be found on the Illinois State Geological Survey website. http://www.isgs.illinois.edu/sites/isgs/files/maps/coal-maps/topo-mines/essex.pdf Coal mining was very prevalent in much of the area this proposed railroad will cross. Please look into the possible hazards this could cause. My home and property is within a quarter mile of the proposed route and the Oklahoma mine is in the same section and very close. The potential of subsidence causing a derailment and a toxic spill concern me greatly. Thank you, Judith Forneris"
