Regarding the proposed Great Lakes Basic rail line: While I am generally a supporter of rail transportation, I have two concerns about the line's impact on our lives in Boone County, Illinois: 1. It has been rumored that many east-west roads would have to be blocked off, in order to limit the number of railroad crossings. This would make life very inconvenient, not to mention increasing the road traffic on those few arterial roads that would remain open. These roads are only minimally capable of handling increased traffic as it is. 2. Having grown up near a major rail line, I know from experience that the engine noise from diesel locomotives carries for many miles, and becomes a constant background distraction. In any case, it would be imperative that the entire line be a no-horn zone." Thank you for your time, and for listening to residents' concerns."
