I want to express my opposition to the proposed GLB railroad. This railroad as proposed will run through my family farm. I am the 5th generation to live on this farm. Heritage and legacy are important words to me. The proposed route will run one half mile south of my house the noise and pollution let alone the closure of the road I live on will have such a tremendous negative impact on my family its hard to describe. The town of Grant Park will eventually be a ghost town. The families that are forced to move because of the excessive amount of land taken for a rail yard will force the schools to close and if there are students left they will have to be consolidated with another rural school. The students will be on buses longer because of the distance and also added time trying to cross railroads with over 100 trains a day running on them. The elevator will eventually go out of business because 15000 acres of farm land will be gone. Farmers will haul their grain somewhere easier to get to. Patton talks about more semis on the road if we don't build this railroad making the highways more dangerous. I say putting more slow moving tractors and combines on the highway is even more dangerous. Farmers having to move equipment from farms that are split because of the railroad are not only an inconvenience, time consuming but will be very dangerous especially when so many roads have been proposed to have no through access. All the nearby towns will also be negatively affected by train crossing and devalued properties. One more thought, just because Patton says its in a rural area does not mean its uninhabited. These are peoples homes and farms .These are peoples livelihood. Do not let this become another government bureaucracy fleecing of america. We do not need it here. Two big railroad companies already said they will not use it. The state of Illinois is already in dire straits. If people are forced out of their homes I can guarantee they will also leave the state of Illinois. This railroad will be so detrimental to this community and my family it is hard to fathom.
