Re: Docket No. FD 35952 - Great Lakes Basin Transportation, Inc. Der Mr. Navecky, Jim Wilson, Great Lakes Basin Transportation, Inc. stated, We want to have a safety corridor in case of a derailment, spill or a leak, if there is an issue. it's a lot easier to evacuate two or three families that several thousand people." For the President of GLB to even say that out loud is telling. There should not be any emergencies happening in the first place. The Times of Northwest Indiana published this statement on April 2, 2016,:"Wilson estimates the new tracks could save trains passing through Chicago region as much as 24 hours each way, which would be especially helpful when they're shipping frozen foods or apples, oranges and other produce from the West Coast. Grapes, strawberries and other fruits and vegetables grown in California and Washington State could have a longer shelf life when they finally reach supermarkets." Taking prime farmland through eminent domain that grows fruit, vegetables, corn and soybeans along the proposed route in the Midwest versus longer shelf life in the supermarkets is like comparing, forgive me, apples and oranges. I'm glad that Mr. Wilson wants to have that safety corridor in case derailment, spill or leak...to evacuate...families..." I'd completely forgotten what a disaster is created when fruits and vegetable are involved in a train accident. Cook County, Il. Dept. of Transportation sent the STB their opposition to GLB and one issue was toxic releases from a train derailment/explosion to the east into high populated areas by the wind and the culprit will not be oranges or lettuce. Toxic releases alone should be the cause of this projects rejection now. Regards, April Gerstung"
