Dear Mr. Navecky, I am writing to express my strong opposition for the proposed GLB railroad project in Illinois and Indiana. The proposed route is approximately 2 miles from my house and less than 1/2 mile from my children's elementary school. Our houses and the school rely on well water and any toxic spill caused by a railroad accident would leave us with no source of water as the city would never extend city water that far out in the country to our homes and school. I am also concerned about the noise that would affect the school as well as the safety concern of the school buses having to cross the tracks. Stopped trains would also cause delay for our volunteer fire departments to respond. And even though the trains are not supposed to stop on the tracks, who is going to monitor them, so you know it will happen. I am also concerned that the railroad would damage the existing drainage tiles beyond repair and we will all be dealing with flooding - in our fields, our basements, etc. I am deeply concerned that Mr. Patton will not answer any of our questions regarding specifics to the proposed route. And the answers he has given simply aren't true and in some case are outside of the laws (for example how much he can legally pay the farmers to take their land). This proposed GLB train route is simply not needed as we already have sufficient train rails in place. This railroad would destroy our multi-generational farms and our deep knit communities. We appreciate you thoroughly investigating all our concerns and we know that you will come to the same conclusion as us - this GLB railroad will damage our environment, our farms, and should not be allowed to continue. Thank you for your time and attention. Sherry Walters
