I write in opposition to the approval and construction of the Great Lakes Basis Railroad. If approved this privately owned venture will have both an immediate and long term adverse impact on the land, businesses and residents of Porter and LaPorte Counties in Indiana. Farms and ranches in these communities will in many cases be bi-sected. Wetlands, cropland and grazing pastures will be threated by air and water and noise pollution. These counties have carefully balanced the competing needs of rural, suburban, city commercial and industrial land use. Construction and operation of the GLB Railroad will adversely impact all of these sectors. The increased rail and road traffic will create a full range of additional hazards to businesses and residents. It's approval and completion will further the demise of family farms in our community, a loss from which we cannot recover. As a small scale rancher, the potential degrading of the air, water and land ism, just too great a risk. While a few private interests and local governments may benefit on the short term, the many, including future generations, will suffer the long term consequences. I urge the STB to deny the GLRR's appilcation to construct and operate its line. Thank you Jay Fahn
