Re: Docket No. 35052 - Great Lakes Basin Transportation, Inc. Dear Mr. Navecky, Some of the complications that would arise from having Great Lakes Basin Transportation, Inc. construct a railroad through 11 counties and 3 states would be: Damage to existing field tiles Decreased production of crops and livestock Closure of some rural roads that would increase farm equipment on more traveled roads Landlocked fields and pastures due to rails being put down The use of herbicides used to maintain portions of the easement The permanent damage to the soil surrounding the railed tracks with what is being transported The permanent loss of rich and productive farmland There are many more problems that would present themselves in addition to the above, all irreversible. What is known at this time is that Great Lakes Basin is a privately funded company, never built a railroad nor maintained one. GLB's financial backers have not disclosed and in this day and age that is unacceptable and unforgivable. GLB states that their plan would reduce train waiting times by 8 hours. Eight hours versus what we know will happen to people's lives and property. To give anyone, especially a private individual, this kind of power is unbelievable and frightening. If this project is allowed to proceed, the trust of the American farmer and those that have chosen to live in a rural community will once again add to the mistrust of our government agencies and forever color this country. Written with all due respect...
