To whom it may concern: The safety of our children and our residents of Porter County is being discounted should Great Lakes Basin R.R. be allowed to go forward with its rail line proposal. I understand the proposed route will be close to several schools in Indiana and this needs to be considered, along with the fact that our counties in Porter and Lake Co. Indiana have many unused and abandoned railroad track properties which should be considered before disrupting other areas in our counties. I live in South Porter Co. and travel to North Porter Co. twice a day, Monday thru Friday, and rarely ever see a train, even though I travel across at least six sets of railroad tracks. I understand the people of CREATE" are working to take care of the issues of traveling by train throughout the Chicagoland area, so why not let them continue their good work and keep the trains in areas which are better equipped to handle train issues, such as derailments, accidents, fires, etc. Our rural parts of Porter Co. and Lake Co. should not have to expect our volunteer firemen and responders to handle such issues. Blocking our roads with railroad tracks and trains will also cause issues with people having medical emergencies to get the help they will need. If you look up the amount of car accidents at the intersection of C.R. 500 W. and State Road 2, you will see we have enough issues with accidents and we certainly will not see improvements if 110 trains per day come through our area."
