Dave Navecky: Re: Docket No. 35952 I am writing in reference to voice my concerns about the Great Lakes Basin Rail Line. If allowed to continue it would greatly interfere with many lives in Kankakee County. The rail line would interfere with the natural flow of water run off by creating a dam that would restrict the flow of rain water in our area which is already plaigued with flooding and water backup. Will the herbicides used on the right of way to control the growth of unwanted vegitation pollute our streams and ground water supply? The effect on the wildlife and their habitat will be destroyed. With 110 trains daily the distruction of wildlife will increase, and the death and injury of wildlife being struck by trains traveling at 70m.p.h.will be atrocious. Hunting and fishing will be disturbed, access to our state park and state park campgrounds will be greatly effected. The crossing of the Kankakee River will be disturbed effecting spawning grounds for the fish and habitat for aquatic life in the river. The proposed site is in a sandy area which will allow pollutants to migrate directly into our fresh water supply. The noise pollution will be terrific to those of us who live in peace and quiet. The effect on the school busing, first responders, police, emergency medical services, and travel will be adversely affected. In the dreaded event of a derailment of trains traveling at 70 m.p.h. will be catestrophic. In our rural communities we have barely enough fire, emergency medical services, police, and volunteers to cover normal circumstances much less a catestrophic event as a derailment.
