My concern with this railroad, among many things, is safety. A railroad with 110 trains per day causes great safety concerns. As we just saw, there was an amtrak crash in Philadelphia killing 7 people and injuring hundreds. Trains are dangerous. This is not groundbreaking news. In the county of Kankakee, IL, we experience our own Amtrak derailment in 1999, which killed 11 people. The cause of that crash was a driver of a truck tractor semi going around crossing gates. These crashes occur. A new 278 mile rail line increases the probability of these incidents. Imagine the ecological issues if one of these derailments happened while carrying hazardous materials into the Kankakee River System.... catastrophe.
