Attn: Dave Navecky Docket #FD 35952 I would like to express my concerns over the purposed Great Lakes Basin Transportation LLC Rail Line Project. I oppose the project for many reasons. The Surface Transportation Board needs to deny this proposal. I would like to start with the town of Westville. Westville is a small town; but is has been growning with some major businesses coming here. McDonald's and the Michiana Hematology-Oncology are the most recent ones to place their businesses here. The most notable business that has been here for years and still is growing today is Purdue North Central. A long time ago people wondered why the United Parcel Service would place a major setup in Westville? They have and businesses and the school that have set up roots here shows that this town is growing and is becoming a major factor for the towns that surround them. That being Michigan City, LaPorte, Valparaiso, Wanatah, Union Mills, and LaCrosse. IF you thought of putting your bridge at 421 and the other end of Westville you will be breaking up a town for no good reason. The other places where their would need to be bridges would make it look like someone tried to criss-cross through the town and countryside for no apparent reason. On line I found the Notice for the Surface Transportation Board STD on March 15, 2016. You need to go around Chicago is a very flimsy to say the least. Why is it that the Class I Railroads are not stating this? The list of railroads in our report but not at the meetings why? It seems just seem to be this board. That's what big cities are for. The country is to get away from the noise and everything else. When you live in the country you expect certain things. Like farmers big equipment one the roads, the dust fro the fields getting into your house on nice spring days cause you have your windows open for that clean fresh air. By this proposal you would be doing great disservice this country. To take away 7,000 acres of farmland is unthinkable! This land feeds not just this country; but all around the world we need every piece of land that is farm able to serve this country and the world. I could see if it needed to be built to export; but it doesn't! It travels every day. So it takes a little longer to get where it needs to go, it's not hurting the good farmland we have to use every day to feed this country and the world. I cannot image the noise it would create. There would not be anything to knock the sound out. I used to live in town by a railroad track. You would here it go by then you would get used the their schedule. It went by every so often. I could not even fathom a train every 13 minutes. You would have time to do nothing!! It would be a constant bother besides the noise it would make inside your house rattle things non stop. There would be no such thing as a decent good night sleep. The board and Fred Patton keeps saying about jobs. IT WILL NOT BRING IN A LOT OF JOBS!! Oh it will at first but it will be temporarily. If anybody thinks it's going to help the economy they are WRONG! It might give you a few jobs; but they will bring in their own people. Another thing is that this is going from Wisconsin, to Illinois, to Indiana. They will have jobs in all of these places. So it won't produce a lot of jobs just in LaPorte County. The board and Fred Patton doesn't say it's just till this project is don or it would be permanent jobs for all these places.. Another big question: GIVE THE ACTUAL NUMBERS OF HOW MANY JOBS YOUR ARE COUNTING? 15,100, 2. TELL US!! The spills will cost us not the railroads or the boards, or the investors or even Fred Patton. They only talk about hauling dangerous chemicals. On Monday May 2, 2016 train derails in Washington D.C. It was a CSX track one of cars leaked sodium hydroxide. It is known as corrosive lye it is a chemical that can irritate and burn the skin and eyes. It took hours later to the the leak plugged. I can see several things wrong with this proposal. It doesn't really benefit anyone. Other than to hurt and destroy a town that is going places and farmers' that feed the country and the world. The farmers are a business too! That the investors, the boards and Fred Patton attend to forget these facts. Sincerely, Trisha
