• Docket: FD 35952 • GLBT proposed rail line Attention: Dave Navecky Public recreation and environmental concern My concern with the GLBT proposed rail line is the entry into the Kankakee River State Park. People travel to the park for bike riding, to observe nature, enjoy the outdoors, hunt, fish, family picnics, bird and wildlife viewing, cross country skiing, camping and many other outdoor activities. The park offers a place for people to go to get away from noise and everyday stresses. They don’t go to see freight trains making noise and polluting the water and land in the park. Fishing is some of the best in the state. Hunting includes dove, pheasant, deer and turkey hunting. The park even offers disabled hunters the opportunity to hunt. Nobody wants to share the park with the noise pollution or smell of the diesel locomotives while trying to enjoy the outdoors. There are two campgrounds also that would be devastated by the noise pollution. Try sleeping in a tent with that noise pollution, smell and vibration. There is a pair of Bald eagles nesting not too far from the proposed GLBR Bridge crossing the Kankakee River in the state park. Although the bald eagle is removed from the endangered species list it is still illegal to harass or disturb them. I believe constructing a bridge and locomotives traveling inside the park boundaries would classify as disturbing the bald eagles. The railroad would scare and harass the Bald eagles and other wildlife from the park. The state park is for public recreation not a railroad driven by a few wealthy investors or someone’s legacy. Mr. Patton said he wants the 200’ easement to allow for up to six tracks some day on his railroad as stated in his interview in the 5/9/2016 Farm Week newspaper. Can you imagine the noise pollution heard through the park with two rails let alone six rail lines? This railroad would be inconsistent with the public convenience and necessity therefor please deny GLBR request to construct this railroad. Tom Hinspeter Salina Township, Bonfield, Illinois
