I am a resident of Morgan Township in Porter County, Indiana and am strongly opposed to the proposed GLB Railroad project. • It will create serious safety issues for road/rail grade crossings throughout southern Porter County as school children travel on buses and individuals go to and from work. • The potential threats of pollution in and drainage problems for the Kankakee River make the GLB Railroad project a danger to the health of the citizens of this area. The Kankakee River area is important for agricultural and residential drainage throughout both northern and southern Porter County. Wetlands and floodplains around the Kankakee River would also be affected by putting a railroad through southern Porter County. • The loss of farmland that would happen as a result of the railroad would cause serious negative impacts to the current economy of the region through the loss of farmland and lowered property values for the land that nearby. • Residents, workers, school children and others traveling through the area would be negatively affected by reduced air quality and increased noise pollution. • The current emergency response personnel and available equipment is not sufficient to adequately and safely handle any emergencies that might arise from the high level of rail traffic that would be travelling through the county every day. The current economic situation and budgets prevent fire, police and emergency departments from being able to upgrade or purchse the necessary equipment and increase their staff to handle emergencies. This adds an additional burden and creates additional safety concerns for those living, working and travelling in the areas that would be impacted by the GLR Railroad project.
