Docket No. FD 35952 Environmental Comment The CDC and other health organizations have determined that children living near or spending large amounts of time near rail lines and trains are considerably more likely to suffer from asthma. We already have several existing rail lines in our area and most of them do not go past schools and subdivisions. By allowing the building the new rail line proposed by the Great Lake Basin Transportation Company LLC (GLBT) it endangers the health of a very large number of children. The route the GLBT has selected travels very close to a large number of schools and several nice homes and subdivisions thus putting children in danger of developing asthma. Noise and land vibration creates a problem for children and their concentration in school and families by disrupting football, soccer and baseball games due to noise pollution. Sleep disruptions from train noise is real and can cause numerous problems in children and adults. The proposed rail line projects that it will carry one hundred ten (110) trains per day or up to one (1) train every thirteen minutes. Air pollution is a real issue again for the same reasons. Poorly maintained engines emit dangerous air pollutants into the air and the environment creating serious health hazards to the people living, working or going to school near the rail line. We would therefore ask the Surface Transportation Board (STB) to deny this proposed rail lines ability to proceed. Thank you for your consideration.
