Hello. Regarding the proposed GLB railroad: People living west of the 9000 N crossing, and north of the 5000 W crossing will be effectively cut off from Manteno Fire Department, Manteno Paramedics. Also, Manteno Fire district includes the state park. People get hurt, get into trouble in the water there every summer. Kids at Camp Shaw get hurt. This railroad will prevent Manteno Fire from getting to people in need. Additionally, exposure to the emissions produced by trains increase risk of cancer. These emissions contribute to acid rain which has been shown to decrease farmland productivity. Nitrogen dioxide which is produced by diesel engines prevents honeybees from finding flowers to sustain them. The constant noise and lights associated with the rail yards have been shown to be deleterious to health. Please take into account the value of the farmland that will be irreparably damaged. The value of the farmland is not measured only by dollars, but is measured in wildlife, peace and tranquility, safety, and in history.
