Hello I am writing this to let you know that I am very concerned about the impact the Great Lakes Basin railroad proposal would have on my property and surrounding farmland. The railway is proposed to run about a 1/2 mile from the back of my property. If there would be a derailment of a train containing hazardous material it would contaminate our well water and the water around us. We love the peace and quiet on our property and the noise a train would make would disrupt our sleep. There is a lot of wildlife in the area and a train would disrupt their habitat. My husband just saw an eagle near our home a few days ago. Our local emergency response teams are not trained or equipped to handle any sort of railroad emergency involving hazardous materials or fire. Most importantly is that no rail company has expressed interest in using this rail line that we know of. If theres a hazardous material spill the material would contaminate the soil and it would get into the Kankakee River. The railroad crossings would block any path that an ambulance or fire truck needs to respond to emergencies. I do not want this railway in our backyard. Thank you for your consideration of the citizens and myself in Lowell Indiana.
