[Clinton] I am requesting the STB's rejection of the Great Lakes Basin Transportation's proposed railroad through Rock County, WI, on basis of negative economic impact. Property owners and renters will lose future profits from farming the acreage that is taken by GLBT. They will also lose profits on field areas that become inaccessible either by isolation or by being carved in to shapes and sizes that do not accomodate farm equipment. In addition to crop profit loss, this land will also drop in property value, causing loss of profit if the owner sells in the future. Devaluation also affects the tax base for the surrounding townships and Rock County, as lower land values mean lower property taxes. This loss of tax income will affect township and county roads, emergency services, school budgets, and library budgets. Please reject GLBT's railroad proposal.
