I could have bought a home anywhere I wanted....with some research I choose to move to Manteno. It was like Mayberry... small town, friendly people, fresh air, green grass, good schools, state park was near by, a real country setting, but 60 miles from Chicago. Well, I choose to make the sacrifice and moved to the country, knowing that I would have a 60 minute drive every day to work and home again. But, it was worth it... having what I have..... I can see the sun rise and the sun set in my own backyard. Not many people can say that. Watch the rain storms roll in... the birds.. bunnies... watch them play in my backyard... All of my family and friends can't believe how beautiful it is in Manteno... And some brainy investors want to take it and destroy Manteno, along with other small towns along the way? Making a rail yard that is 3 x 5 miles only a mile from my home? Bringing along the dirt, grim, noise, turning Manteno into a railyard just like in Chicago? Having trains traveling 70 mph only feet from my house? The sound of a train traveling at those speeds, how dangerous to the children that ride their bikes on my block. We all have 5 acre parcels, some with horses, some with small children, grandchildren... out and about... it's like the good old days when you didn't have to worry about your children playing outside... and you want to ruin that? These investors must be heartless... God bless them if they can lay their heads down on their pillow at night and be at peace. I sure couldn't. Shame on them... So, it's all about money? What are they going to do if there is a hazardous spill? What are they going to do when a child gets hit by a speeding train? What are they going to do when we have flooding because they have altered too many of the farmers fields and the spring rains come? I think if the investors families were influenced by this negatively one ounce, they wouldn't be pushing for this. They wouldn't even be discussing it. Why don't they build it in their own backyard??? Donna Bukowski
