The Great Lakes Basin Rail Line is proposed to run only 300 feet from my home that I am in the process of building. My husband and I picked Lowell, IN to retire there after working years and years and saving our money to live out in the quiet and peaceful country. Our plan for our 5 acres is to foster injured and unwanted animals. Dogs , cats, horses, etc. A rail line that close would destroy our hopes and dreams. Any and all oil and other spillings would go directly into our drinking water. We have only well water there. We would live in fear of constant contamination of our drinking water and the water of our animals. Not to mention all the wildlife in the area that would be harmed from the noise, vibrations and contaiminated water. How many animals would be killed from the 70mph passing trains? There are so many environmental reasons against this rail line, I don't understand why the public needs to state them all. Shouldn't the rail line people need to prove what environmental detriment a rail line going through the country side will cause? Is there any positive environmental impact of a rail line? Please don't allow a few people who want to make money destroy thousands of lives. It would ruin family farms, family homes , property values, and our peaceful way of life. Thank You.
