As the University of Wisconsin Extension Agent, I have received many formal concerns about the impact a proposed rail would have to the area and agriculture production. The proposed loss of over 570 acres of highly productive crop land in Rock County Wisconsin would have a negative economic impact in the area through lost production and supporting sales exceeding $600,000 annually. Much of the farm land on the proposed route has annual yields more then 40% greater then the county average. Due to the high productivity of these lands the environmental impact seems excessive and would effect lands of great agricultural importance.
