Dear Mr. Navecky, I am commenting on the proposed Rail Line slated to be installed in south Lake County in Indiana. I have a number of concerns. Foremost is safety;the proposed line will be very near the Lowell Middle School. The distraction, as well as potential for accident is very concerning. In addition this is a rural area where the majority of students are bussed to school. The rail line will require numerous road/rail crossings and will result in a number of roads being closed. In addition to inconvenience, this will also cause longer response times for emergency vehicles. The entire south Lake County area is served by a single Fire Department in Lowell. Finally,I have a concern about the loss and damage to farmland that will occur. Most of this area has water drainage issues. Farmers have spent a large amount of money to install drainage tile to make the land suitable for farming. The construction of the rail line will damage these systems. Thank you for your time and consideration.
