[Clinton] Turtle Creek in Rock County The Proposed GLB railroad plans to cross Turtle Creek in Rock County although no bridge building has been mentioned. Turtle Creek is a year round navigable stream. The construction process will cause much disruption to the fish, fowl and animals thriving in the privately owned Turtle Creek area. The turtle creek warm water and spring fed flowage is home to clams, crawdads, numerous fish including bass, carp, bluegills and shiners and watermoccosin and rattle snakes. The mostly treelined shoreline is home to owls, hawks, eagles, ducks, geese, herons, turkeys, robins, sparrows and blackbirds to name a few.Turtle Creek and privately owned surrounding area is home to squirrels, raccoons, fox, chipmonks, weasels, turtles, coyotes, woodchucks, muskrats, opossum, and whitetail deer. As the trains roar past, the noise and vibrations will disrupt the wildlife. The wildlife will also disrupt the trains as they will go on the tracks. A derailed train in or near Turtle Creek could spill chemicals or oil into the water causing further damage. In the spring Turtle Creek always floods as it is the natural drainage for the surrounding area snow melting. The small brook flowing into Turtle Creek also floods. Some years of cold winters the thick ice on Turtle Creek breaks into huge floating slabs on the flooded creek causing dangerous ice jams that can be very destructive as they crash into the shoreline and pile up. Is the proposed GLB railroad prepared for this destructions? Turtle Creek is a recreation area with fishing, rafting, tubing, wading, swimming and ice skating inthe winter. The proposed crossing of the GLB is where four generations of our family and many others have enjoyed the beauty and recreation of Turtle Creek . Do not destory this.We want to pass the legacy on to future generations. Attached are pictures of Turtle Creek flooded and canoeing, rafting and fishing pictures.
