After looking at the costs versus the benefits of the Great Lakes Basin Rail Line I have concluded that this project is not in the best interest of my community. In conclusion I am opposed to the project. Our community will receive a short term gain during construction at the cost of a long-term burden. I feel the project advocates are rather short sided in their thinking or perhaps have their own monetary interests in mind. I do not believe this is a project that will help our community. In addition, the burden it places on local landowners is unacceptable. Many of the people that have moved to these rural areas did so in order to live in peace and quiet. Placing a rail line in their backyard is a nuisance that they should not have to endure. Not to mention the increased dangers it places on local citizens as a result of the toxins that will be transported as well as the transportation bottlenecks that it will cause.
