I strongly believe that a railroad should not be permitted to pass through Porter County. There are many existing railways which are not being used in the area and it would be better for the residents and the environment to make use of them, rather than build new railways. The new proposed railway will essentially box in our town and cross the two main roads leading to/from town, making commuting a nightmare. 90% of our working population commute. It will negatively affect our drainage - the entire area is low/marsh. The houses on the north side of town are flooded so frequently and severely that litigation has been threatened multiple times, and if the railway is laid just north of those houses it will worsen the situation. Our town is currently working on a million+ drainage project to improve the drainage on that side of town, but the rail project may defeat our efforts. Additionally, our water treatment plant is on the north side of town and very close to where the proposed rail way would run. The town would be forced to move the water treatment plant for the safety of its citizens. The noise would also greatly impact the residents of Hebron as the railway would pass very close to homes which are currently surrounded by county park, forest, and farm fields. There aren't enough buildings or trees to block the noise. Please say no" to this rail line!"
