On the proposed route of GLB railroad. I have some concerns on the first branch in Westville after it splits up at CR 600 S. Where it would cross Wozniak RD. The land that it rides on between Hwy. 6 and the old rail bed has some potential safety issues. Part of the land is a registered wetland, another part is actually a wet type of swampy land and is that way year round, in fact I have never seen it farmed in my 17 years here because of the high water table. And one more concern , believe it or not, is that other parts of the land are dry peat beds. In my 17 years of living here I have witnessed 2 MUCK" fires in this area. A "MUCK" fire is where the dry peat burns (one from a campfire and the other was a possible ember from a local burn pile) or rather smolders down in the ground, downwards of 5-6 feet then starts to burn outward under the ground until the ground collapses. The only way you can tell such a fire is going is just a smokey haze in the air. The problem with that is once that is detected its most likely been days burning down and outward. The only way to put it out is to dig a deep moat around it and fill it with water to smoother out the smoldering. I know it sounds made up, but it is really a dangerous fire because its under ground where you really cant tell how far it has burnt or whats on top that might fall through. Another MAJOR concern is that the crossing will be right after a 90 degree turn in the road. And if you do not know the area very good, and more so at night, it is possible that someone might not have the time to stop before its to late. Wozniak rd. is a highly traveved road and believe me people do not drive slow."
