I am writing to express my opposition to the Great Lakes Basin (GLB) Railroad that is proposed to go through southern Porter County. My parents will be impacted by this along with several friends who have children at Morgan Township School. Reasons include: safety - the proposed path is merely a 1/4 mile from the school. That is too close for the safety of kids. There is also a volunteer fire department housed by the school - how will emergency vehicles be able to get through if they're waiting for one of the hundreds of trains passing through? That is very dangerous. My parents depend on these emergency vehicles - if a train is going through, that could cause a delay on help needed for the many rural residents. I doubt the Great Lakes Basin company cares about the health and welfare of these citizens. In addition, the noise and vibration will have an extremely negative impact on Morgan School - which is one of the best in the state. Putting a railroad that close could greatly reduce the students ability to get an education - they will be distracted by the proximity of the train and the noise pollution it will produce. Porter County, and in particular, Morgan Township values family, education, peace and a quiet lifestyle. My parents moved from the city of Chicago to escape the noise, the pollution and the congestion. If this railroad is approved, that is exactly what a tranquil area like Morgan Township will turn into - please oppose this railroad in this wonderful area of our country.
