Dave, I wanted to let you know my concerns for the possible rail way. I am concerned with the increased time it may take for emergency vehicles to get to accidents, fires and to the hospitals in our areas if the rail lines are added. We live in the country and are by a busy intersections at route 41 and Belshaw road. There have been multiple accidents with severe medical injuries or deaths. It takes our volunteer fire department/EMT time to get to us because of being in the country. If the rail lines are put in our community it will increase the time for the emergency vehicles/staff to get to the scene of accidents. I am also concerned with the close proximity of the rail line to our middle school and housing. I am a teacher and I know that it will be difficult for our students to concentrate and learn with the amount of train traffic that is expected on these rail lines. I am a special education teacher and see the sensory needs of my students impacted by the noises of emergency vehicles, sirens etc in the community. I feel that the train noises, rattling in the building and shaking of a building would be a detriment to my special needs students causing them distress. I am also concerned about the close proximity of the rail lines as a safety issue for our children. In neighboring communities children have walked on the rail lines and been killed. Others have been hit in cars and been killed. These rail lines will cross many of our roads leading to and from our schools and community stores causing our children to cross them. I fear that our students will be in harms way with the number of crossing points in our communities. I have another concern if the trains should derail or spill toxic waste in our community. Many of our community members including myself are on a well. Lowell is on a well as well. Any toxic spills could cause poisoning of our wells and be a detriment to our health. I also fear since the rail lines are proposed to be within 3/4 of a mile of my home that the constant noise from the trains passing would be difficult at night and could cause medical problems with lack of sleep. I truly appreciate your time in considering my concerns and I hope that you will take into consideration the extreme impact these rail lines will have on our community. I have other concerns about how it will impact my neighbors/farmers that are my friends, however the concerns I have stated here are those that I feel directly impact me/my family. Again thank you for your time.
