To Whom it may concern In regards to the proposed rail line by great Lakes Basin rail line, I am very concerned about the amount of damage that this will cause to our drainage in our area. I install and repair field tiles in my business for farmers. I understand the importance of them and have seen first hand what happens when they become blocked or damaged. In our county there are several hundred miles of them that would be damaged by the construction of this rail line. A large portion of them are only two to three feet under ground and have been there since the 30's. Once they are damaged, it will cause a very large lose of farm ground, flooding of homes and roads in the area, as well as creating more wet areas for mosquitoes to breed. This rail line will basically build a dam across the Porter county area stopping all the surface water from going south to the Kankakee river basin. Once this happens it will have an direct effect on the eco system of our wetlands. I also fear that it will lower the level of the Kankakee river, which in turn could cause the Northern Indiana Public Service Co (NIPSCO) to have to reduce or stop the power plant from running. They are mandated by federal law to shut he plant down once the river reaches certain levels. This would in turn cause a power shortage for 1/5 of the county.
